Professor Roland Sturm and his team specialize in German and Comparative Politics, as well as in Comparative Public Policy, Political Economy, and European integration studies. Since Roland Sturm’s appointment as Chair in 1996, he has been awarded a number of national and international research projects, which have secured uninterrupted access to research funding. In addition, Ph.D. programmes have provided an infrastructure for advanced students and a forum of academic communication. The Chair has published standard text books in the fields of federalism, British politics and the Europeanization of the German political system. It initiated research in a variety of new fields, including EU environmental integration, coalition government, national and international conflict resolution, the regulatory state in the process of  systems transformation, federalism paradox, political culture in policy-making and a constructivist interpretation of federalism.
